I cannot download the TotalPIX editor software. Why?

The TotalPIX Editor software only works with Windows-based PC s. Unfortunately, if you are using a MAC, you cannot currently download the TotalPIX Editor.

You can only download TotalPIX Editor software with Internet Explorer (IE). You cannot use other browsers like Firefox at the moment. Most computers have IE installed even if it is not the default browser. Simply use IE to download the TotalPIX editor and then revert to your preferred browser.

Where do I find the TotalPIX Editor and stored files on my PC?

These are stored by default in the following directory: C:/Program Files/TotalPIX Editor/Projects unless you defined another path during the installation procedure, in which case search in C:/defined name/TotalPIX Editor/MyProjects

How do I remove a project once it has been printed and I have finished with it?

  1. Close the TotalPIX Editor
  2. Click Start, and then click Run, type:
    C:\Program Files\TotalPIX Editor\MyProjects\
  3. Click OK.
  4. Windows Explorer shows an overview of all your projects.
  5. Remove the finished product and close Windows Explorer.

When editing my pictures in the TotalPIX Editor, do I damage the original files?

No, TotalPIX Editor copies every picture that you drag from your picture archive leaving your original untouched.

Some of my pictures contain a red dot and I cannot place them into a Style layout, what is the problem?

In order to avoid later disappointment, otalPIX editor does not accept any pictures that will not print well. The red dot is a warning sign and indicates a problem with the picture quality - probably because the resolution is too low.

When I edit my picture it does not improve. How is that possible?

The program can bring out the best in your photos, but it cannot work magic. Picture quality cannot be improved and a hazy picture cannot be made sharper - although you can make minor enhancements to the contrast and brightness of your pictures. A picture that looks good on the screen will generally also be printed well. If in doubt, we advise you to choose another picture.

Is it possible to change a background or single-sided/double-sided layout once I have started to create my projects?

Unfortunately it is not possible to change the format or the number of pages once you have started. You will have to start a new project.

When I load a folder that contains a lot of pictures, the TotalPIX Editor program becomes slower. Is there anything I can do about that?

Under ‘Settings’ (shown by the spanner) in the menu bar, select ‘thumbnails’. This will allow you to choose the number of pictures to be loaded in one go - about 30 is recommended. You can view the next selection of pictures from the folder using the arrows below the bottom picture.

If the pictures do not appear as thumbnails in the TotalPIX Editor, you should try changing the thumbnail settings.

Click the settings icon (spanner along the top menu bar). Select the thumbnails tab. Ensure that the value for 'Only create thumbnails from files smaller than' is larger than the files you want to see.

What does the ‘Refresh’ button do?

This will refresh the folder containing your pictures. This is useful when you have added a new picture to a previously saved picture folder.

Will the dotted line of a text or picture box be printed when I have not placed any text or pictures in it?

No, nothing will be printed on the background if you have not dragged a picture into a picture box or placed text in a text box.

How does the ‘cut out’ function work?

When you drag a thumbnail over to the project page, your picture appears in the edit box and a frame is shown superimposed over it. This frame has the same aspect ratio as the picture frame on the tab page. You can move the frame over your picture by dragging it with your mouse. You can also make the frame larger or smaller by holding your mouse over the bar at the bottom of the frame and then using the arrows to resize it.

When you are happy with the position and size of the frame, click Apply. Make any adjustments to the colour, brightness and contrast and then click OK to save your changes for that picture.

How do I use the caption editor?

Double-click in a text box to bring up the ‘Edit caption’ box. The cursor shows you the window where you type your caption. You can change the colour of the caption by selecting a colour from the colour drop down menu. You can also change the size of the caption text, the font and the alignment using the relevant drop down menus.
